Sweet Darkness

When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness to learn
anything or anyone that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.

By: David Whyte

My eyes are tired. It's been so much for me, and I need to rest.

I am taking a break, going to soak some time with my aging parents, and try to relax into the actual impermanence of everything,
even them,
even this time of transition.

Maybe if we are all very well behaved, or maybe if we rant in the streets, the people who CONTROL TIME will let us be done with this silly Daylight Savings ritual we endure each year. May you find nourishing ways to adjust, again!

Meanwhile, I hope this poem brings solace to you, or at least permission, to remain cocooned, or hibernated, or wintering, for as long as you need.

It takes time to decide the worlds to which we belong, to discern who and what brings us alive.
